It feels like the future has finally caught up!

Two weeks ago, Tesla unveiled the Cybercab concept and the new Optimus Robot. It feels like the future has finally caught up! Regarding the Cybercab, I believe it's Tesla's only move to sustain its high market value. The battle for dominance in the pure EV market is being lost to Chinese automakers, and I think Elon Musk is aware of this, which is why he's pivoting to an area where Tesla still has an edge—autonomous driving and vehicle integration. In my opinion, this is a fight for survival, and European OEMs seem completely lost in the competitive landscape. As for the Optimus Robot, it's another utopian vision brought to life. Who wouldn’t want one? With an initial price point potentially around $25k, it’s a bargain for all it could offer! I have to admit, while Musk’s management style doesn’t resonate with me, one thing is undeniable—he’s a visionary thinker, always aiming big and pushing boundaries. And the Winner is… Artificial Intelligence (AI)! This year, the Nobel Prizes in both Chemistry and Physics have recognized the profound, transformative impact that AI has had in these fields. In Physics, the prize was awarded to John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton. Hopfield’s work on the Hopfield network, a type of artificial neural network that mimics a physical system known as spin glass, earned him recognition (though I’ll need to delve deeper into spin glass myself!). Hinton, on the other hand, was honored for his pioneering contributions to backpropagation, a crucial algorithm used to train neural networks—something I’m more familiar with! In Chemistry, the prize went to Demis Hassabis and John Jumper from DeepMind, as well as David Baker. Hassabis and Jumper were recognized for their groundbreaking work on AlphaFold, an AI program capable of predicting the 3D structure of proteins—a major leap for biological research. AlphaGo - The Movie - Available on You Tube

A fantastic documentary about the early stages of DeepMind, btw their associates Demis Hassabis and John Jumper just received the Chemistry Nobel Prize for AlphaFold, is available on YouTube (link below). I highly recommend watching it! The 1-hour and 30-minute documentary gives incredible insight into the power of AI and AGI, specifically how it was applied to the game of Go. While the entire documentary is captivating, the highlight for me was Game 4, where Lee Sedol, the world champion of Go, made an astonishing 1-in-10,000 move to defeat AlphaGo (at the 1h07 mark). It’s fascinating to see how games, much like in the 17th century with the development of probability and statistics, were used as a testing ground for this cutting-edge technology back in 2016. If AI could perform at this level against a brilliant mind in such a complex game (winning 4-1), just imagine what it can do today, 8 years later, for you and your organization. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I’ll be watching it again soon with my kids!
